The Amazin' Muts....I mean Mets

Oh the pain. I can't believe that I'm going to be negative about the Mets after a win. Correction, after a win that snaps a 5-game losing streak. I was at the game last night with my cousin and we were talking about the Mets on the way to the game. The conversation consisted of mostly about how the Mets probably won't win the division or wild card and miss the playoffs. We pretty much agreed on that the Mets will finish in 4th place with a record of 75 - 87. That is so disappointing to say after the Mets offseason moves and hearing all of the experts say that the Mets should at least be in the World Series against the Tigers and some even predicted to win the World Series. So lets get down the the beefy part of this post and I promise this will be the last post about the Mets until the All-Star break.

At the beginning of last week the Mets went on a West Coast trip to face the San Francisco Giants for three games and the San Diego Padres in a four game series. The Mets took two out of three from the Giants and Met fans felt good. Then they made the trip down to San Diego were the Mets forgot to show up and got swept in the four games. They lost the first three games 2-1. They got good pitching and they couldn't hit. Then in the last game they had the lead and got some offense but Bill Wagner came in and gave up a three-run homer. And go on to lose. So if you are doing the math at home, the Mets went 2-5 on the trip. Total disappointment. So the Mets return home and then lose the opener to the Diamondbacks. So there we remained three games under .500 and 7.5 games out of first place in the division. I am calling for the head of Willie Randolph. I know that is hypocritical of me because I said that I would like to wait until the All-Star break and then make a decision but I can't wait any more. This team is non-reactive to what happens on the field. So I went to last nights game as I mentioned before and the starting pitchers were Mike Pelfrey for the Mets and Brandon Webb for the D-Backs. I went to the game assuming they would get blown out. Brandon Webb is arguably the best sinker ball pitcher in the game along with Chien-Ming Wang of the Yankees. As most people know Pelfrey pitched the game of his life. So we went to the th inning with a 3-0 lead. Billy Wagner came in to save the game. Pelfrey gave up a hit and then Wagner gave up a double. But at that point there were two outs. Wagner gets two strikes on Mark Reynolds, and in typical Mets fashion, Wagner gives up a BOMB to Reynolds. Now this wasn't a shot, this thing almost went to Citi Field. Thats was Billy's second consecutive blown save. Then the Mets go on to win in the 13th with a Carlos Beltran two-run home run. Terrific. Then today, basically the same thing. I didn't see the game because I was working but Santana pitched 7 strong innings with 10 strikeouts and they blew a 4 run lead and Wagner blew his third consecutive save. Pathetic.

I know you can't fire the team, but player changes are needed. Maybe even Manager and GM need to go. I really hate to say it because Omar has been very successful in bringing in top shelf free agents. Maybe the most important was Pedro Martinez. Yes, I know he has been hurt a lot, BUT having said that, if you don't sign him, you probably don't have Johan, Beltran and Delgado. Yes, Delgado is pretty much done but in 2006 everyone loved him.

This team better shape up or people will not go to the games.

Lets hope the last 98 games are better.
